Structuring an MCDA model using SSM: A case study in energy efficiency
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work presents the use of a problem structuring method, Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), to structure a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) model, aimed at appraising energy efficiency initiatives. SSM was useful to help defining clearly the decision problem context and the main actors involved, as well as to unveil the relevant objectives for each stakeholder. Keeney’s Value Focused Thinking approach was then used to refine and structure the list of objectives according to the perspective of the main evaluators identified. In addition to describing this particular case study, this paper aims at providing some general guidelines on how SSM may facilitate the emergence of objectives for MCDA models. 2009 Elsevier B.V. Systematic Structuring of the Business Domain of Local Mobile Apps Stores Using Soft Systems Methodology (SSM)
Due to the global competitive environment in the mobile app market, traditional problem-solving methods in examining the problem of accepting stores offering these digital products have ignored the important role of human factors and therefore this weakness necessitates research on relevant policies by governing bodies from another perspective based on a soft systems thinking approach. This pro...
متن کاملUsing SSM to rethink the analysis of energy efficiency initiatives
This paper reflects an attempt to rethink the process of analysis of Energy Efficiency Initiatives using Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) as a problem structuring tool. The aim of the work is to provide public and private initiative promoters with a structured support for a more informed decision, regarding the implementation of energy efficiency measures. The SSM approach contributed with the id...

Geographic information science (GIS) and multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) disciplines combine to provide valuable insights which guide decision-makers evaluating complex spatial criteria and alternatives, especially when there are conflicting stakeholder values and objectives. Although GIS and MCDA methods have been integrated to support forward-looking decision analyses, there is also ad...
متن کاملGoal-Based Decision Making - Using Goal-Oriented Problem Structuring and Evaluation Visualization for Multi Criteria Decision Analysis
[Context and motivation]: Goal-Oriented Requirements Engineering (GORE) and Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) are two fields that naturally complement each other for providing decision support. Particularly, GORE techniques complement MCDA in terms of problem structuration and visualization of alternative evaluation, and MCDA techniques complement GORE in terms of alternative elimination ...
متن کاملA Multi-objective Model for Sizing and Placement of Distributed Generation
The traditional approach in electric generation is focused on centralized plants producing electricity which is transmitted and distributed over long distances through the networks. In contrast, using distributed energy resources, much smaller amounts of energy are produced by numerous small, modular energy conversion units, which are often located close to the point of use. Therefore, Distribu...
